Chapter 5 — Episode 5
First, the episode opens with Kaneki crying out for help and calling to Tsukiyama, only to realize with horror that Tsukiyama himself is the threat, greeting him with a predatory "nice to eat you." Back at the Anteiku café, customers discuss the growing danger in the 20th Ward due to CCG investigators ("Doves") patrolling the area, while manager Yoshimura lets Kaneki leave early since Touka is absent due to illness. Then, Tsukiyama lures Kaneki to a secret ghoul dining club under the pretense of friendship, where Kaneki discovers that he is intended to be the main course for an audience of ghouls. Touka arrives to rescue Kaneki, and a fierce confrontation breaks out between her and Tsukiyama. During the fight, Tsukiyama reveals a past acquaintance with Touka from when she was fourteen, taunting her about her diminished strength compared to before. He manages to taste Kaneki's blood, and is overwhelmed by its extraordinary flavor — a result of Kaneki being a half-ghoul — declaring it far beyond anything he has ever experienced. Finally, Kaneki defiantly kicks Tsukiyama and declares he will not be eaten and will take Kimi — a human girl present at the club — to safety. Tsukiyama, now obsessed with Kaneki's unique taste, shifts from wanting to simply devour him to wanting to savor him as an ongoing "luxury," setting up a dangerous new fixation that leaves Kaneki's situation more precarious than ever.
