Chapter 9 — Episode 9

Mado immediately briefs Amon on their current target: a ghoul known as "Applehead," responsible for over fifty predatory kills in a single year, with their prime suspect being an elderly woman named Muramatsu Kie, aged sixty-eight — a detail that surprises Amon, though Mado insists his instincts are reliable. Then, the investigation into Applehead continues as Mado and Amon conduct surveillance and interact with Muramatsu, while on the ghoul side, Kaneki and his allies navigate the growing tensions in the 20th Ward, with Kaneki deepening his connections to Anteiku and struggling with his dual nature as a half-ghoul. The threat of outside ghoul factions encroaching on the ward becomes increasingly apparent, putting pressure on both humans and ghouls alike. Finally, at the end of the episode, a preview scene teases a confrontation involving Uta and a new, aggressive ghoul who has been causing trouble in the 4th Ward, setting up a tense showdown. The episode closes with a next-episode preview titled "Aogiri," signaling the imminent introduction of the dangerous Aogiri Tree organization as a major new threat.
